First Blush

Liz and Anthony Caine first came to one another's attention in 1993, when the two of them were twelve. Anthony was a geeky, freckly, shy kid who adored Liz from afar.

Too awkward to approach Liz directly, Anthony simply hung around hoping Liz would notice him. He helped her with her homework, ate lunch at the table she shared with her friends, and made his presence felt as best he could. He was a little too subtle, though, and he wasn't able to gather his courage to let Liz know he liked her.

Liz was unsure what to do about the situation; they danced around the issue for months without connecting, although they each suspected that the other might be interested.

Liz and Anthony kept each other on tenterhooks for the better part of the 1993 school year. They were each too shy and inexperienced to know how to approach the other.

Unable to read one another's minds, they failed to make their mutual attraction known.

Their impasse extended into 1994, when Liz's friends got fed up with their inaction and wrote Anthony a love note on Liz's behalf...
